The digital age is certainly an interesting one for artists and people who like art. On one hand it has never been easier to get your material out there, yet it also become all too easy for work to get ripped off by less scrupulous internet citizens. There are, however, some innovations from the digital age that are wholly good for art. Artnear, an app that works on the iPhone and iPad 2, is a pretty good example of this. The idea behind this is simple – add your location and it will find a variety of different galleries and exhibitions you can visit.
The magic of Artnear is that it will encourage people to seek out cool art galleries that otherwise might deceive them. This should only encourage more and more people to see unique new artists, and not just the big names. It’s quite encouraging to see new apps coming out that only help people consume good art – there are plenty of negative aspects to art in the internet age, and it is nice to find something wholly positive.
So if you tend to travel around a bit, or just like sleuthing out hidden art galleries, then this might be a good app for you.
